DESCRIPTION
Bitter Orange x Pomelo (Citrus aurantium x Citrus grandis) is a particular Citrus hybrid of our collection.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know its origin, it probably comes from southern Italy.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is arbustive in shape, with long branches which tend to lignify quickly.
Plants are compact-spherical in shape.
-Leaves: Leaves are somewhat round shape, extremely dark-green in colour and medium-big in size.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is like a big orange in size, round in shape.
-Flavour: Skin is quite bitter, pulp is usually somewhat acid, just like the lemon one.
-Colour: It’s green at first, then it becomes orange in colour.
Pulp is bright orange in colour.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: This is a 4 season variety. Fruits can be produced 2-3 times per year.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time, then it continues during Summer and Autumn also.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Bitter Orange x Pomelo can be used in the kitchen.
You can squeeze it just like a classic lemon, or zest it – cut it to be candied.
-Ornamental: It’s a nice looking ornamental variety for its cold tollerance, and its 4 season tendency.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -10°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
