DESCRIPTION
Corse Variegated Bitter Orange (Citrus aurantium foliis variegatis) is a particular cold tollerant Citrus variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
As the name suggest, it comes from the beautiful Island of Corse.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is medium in vigour, usually spherical-compact in shape.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate, variegated and extremely rich in colour and intensity.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is usually round in shape, quite small in size.
-Flavour: It’s bitter and seedy inside. Its skin has a intense aroma.
-Colour: Fruit is variegated as long as it’s unripe.
Then, it tends to become more yellow. Pulp is light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: Corse Variegated Bitter Orange tends to be a 4 season variety. So it can produce fruits in different seasons of the year.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time, but flowers can be produced during other seasons too.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen:
As a bitter orange, it can be used to make delicious marmalades and liquors.
Skin is so intense, so you can zest it to fish and meat.
Pulp is quite bitter, but can be used too.
-Ornamental: It’s one of the best ornamental Citrus we know, for its cold tolerance, its shape and its beautiful intense colour.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -10°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
