DESCRIPTION
Calamansi (Citrus microcarpa) is a particular cold tollerant Citrus variety.

ORIGIN

Also called “Calamondin” in Europe, but also “Philippine Lime” in Asia, it probably comes from Philippines.
It’s been highly grown and used in Orient.

PLANT

-Tree features: Plant is very compact in shape, spherical in growth.
-Leaves: Leaves are somewhat round in shape, small in size and extremely dark-green in colour.

FRUIT

-Shape: Fruit is a small “round clementine”.
-Flavour: Skin is very sweet, pulp is quite acid-bitter but refreshing in taste.
-Colour: Fruit is light orange to deep orange, but can be also used when still green.
Pulp is light orange and seedy.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: This is a 4 season variety in fruiting. Fruits can be produced 2 or 3 times per year.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring, then it continues during summer and autumn also.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: Calamansi can be highly used in the kitchen.
It’s combined with honey in the Philippines, but it can also be used to make delicious marmalades, liquors and desserts.
-Ornamental: For its shape, its 4 season tendency and its cold tollerance it’s one of the best ornamental Citrus we have.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -10°C.

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
