DESCRIPTION
Childing Bitter Orange (Citrus aurantium foetifera) is a particolar ancient and cold tollerant Citrus variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
It is of very ancient origins: we still don’t know from where exactly, but we know it’s been highly grown all over Italy hundreds of years ago.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is so vigorous in growth, with long and sometimes thorny branches.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate to slightly round-shaped, medium-big in size, and bright green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a particular flattened at the poles Bitter orange, medium in size.
Its main feature, is the presence of another “little orange” inside, just like a fetus: that’s why of its name.
-Flavour: Skin is very intense in aroma, pulp is bitter to refreshing in taste.
-Colour: Orange to deep orange outside, light orange inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: This is a 4 season ripening Citrus variety. Fruits start to be ready from Winter, then they hold exceptionally well on trees for several months.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring, then it continues during Summer and Autumn also.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Childing Bitter Orange can be used just like any other bitter orange in the kitchen.
You can make amazing liquors, marmalades, sauces, or simply giving your recipes a special aroma.
-Ornamental: Its ripening tendency, and its cold tollerance, makes it one of the best ornamental Citrus we have.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -12°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
