DESCRIPTION
Chinotto Sour Orange (Citrus myrtifolia) is a particular “generous” Citrus variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know its origin at the moment: it probably comes from China.
But we know it’s been highly grown in the Mediterrean, especially in Italy, Liguria Region.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is very compact in shape, it somewhat resembles a mirto (that’s why of its latin name “myrtifolia)
-Leaves: Leaves are very small, round to lanceolate in shape, extremely dark-green in colour and intense in aroma.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a little “small round clementine” in shape and size.
-Flavour: Pulp is a little bit sour but very refreshing in taste, that’s why it’s been highly used to produce a particular traditional drink!
-Colour: Orange to deep orange outside, light orange inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: This is a 4 season Citrus variety. Plants produce fruits every seasons of the year.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time, then it continues during Summer and Autumn also.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Chinotto Sour Orange can be candied whole, and it’s amazing.
You can also combine it with different liquors, it’s a nice and curios mix.
-Ornamental: it’s one of the most beautiful ornamental citrus for its fruiting tendency and its colour.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -8°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
