DESCRIPTION
Curled-Leaf Bitter Orange (Citrus aurantium) is a particular cold tollerant Citrus variety.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know its origin at the moment, it probably comes from Southern Italy.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is very compact-spherical in shape.
-Leaves: Leaves are particular and very intense in aroma. They are usually round-shaped, medium in size.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a rount to slightly flattened at the poles bitter orange in size and shape.
-Flavour: Skin is very aromatic, intense in flavour. Pulp is usually seedy, bitter and refreshing in taste.
-Colour: Orange to deep orange in colour outside, light orange inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to ripen from Winter time, but fruits hold well on trees for several months.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time, but flowers can be discovered in different periods of the year.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Curled-Leaf Bitter Orange can be highly used in the kitchen, just like any other bitter orange.
Skin can be zested or candied according to your needs.
Marmalades, liquors, candied peels, parfumes, cosmetics are just a few things you can do with it!
-Ornamental: It’s a particular ornamental variety for its shape and its cold resistence.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -12°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
