Double Blood Orange (Citrus sinensis)

DESCRIPTION
Double Blood Orange (Citrus sinensis) is a very particular and rare citrus variety of our collection.

ORIGIN

It comes from Southern Italy, where it’s highly grown for commercial purposes.
Also Sardinia island is a big producer.

PLANT

-Tree features: plant is similar to a mix between a Moro orange and a Tarocco orange, in shape and size.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate and medium-big in size. They are usually light green in colour.

FRUIT

-Shape: Double blood orange is a medium fruit in size, usually round in shape.
-Flavour: It is very sweet and highly tasty, considered in fact to be one of the best oranges grown in italy.
-Colour: The fruit can be slightly red to very purple (sometimes it can be quite black) because of the many antioxydants.
Just like moro orange does, according to climate, and also cultivation, this variety can produce more or less pigments on the skin, and also inside the pulp.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: It tends to ripen from January to March according to Climate conditions.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: This fruit can be used just like any other orange we know!
For its amazing red-purple features, it’s amazing if squeezed, to make amazing juices, or also cakes, marmalades, liquors, salads, and so on.
-Ornamental: it’s a classic orange in shape.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of – 8°C

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
