Syracusan Lemon (Citrus limon)
DESCRIPTION
Syracusan Lemon (Citrus limon) is a high quality lemon variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
As the name suggest, it comes from Syracuse, Sicily (southern Italy).
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is medium in vigour and size, very similar to a classic lemon tree.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate, dark-green in colour and medium in size.
Sometimes little thorns can be found.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a bigger Lemon in size and shape. It usually has a bigger skin (albedo).
-Flavour: Skin tastes aromatic, pulp is highly juicy and rich in flavour. It also is a little bit seedy inside.
-Colour: Bright yellow to deep yellow outside accoding to the harvesting time.
Light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It usually starts to ripen from December to Spring.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring, then it can continues during Summer, and sometimes Autumn also.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Syracusan Lemon is a high quality fruit.
Skin can be zested to give fish and meat a refreshing flavour.
It can also be used to make delicious cakes, marmalades, liquors, ice creams!
juice is consistent and great in taste!
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful ornamental plant for its shape and its fruit size.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
