DESCRIPTION
Wined Red Lemon (Citrus limon) is one of the most particular lemon variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know its origin.
It probably comes from southern Italy.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is compact-spherical in shape, sometimes a little bit thorny.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate, smaller than the ones of a classic lemon, and bright green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a “Red pigmented Lemon”. Soetimes it can be orange, others yellow.
But if it’s cold enough during Winter, fruit can become purple!
-Flavour: Skin is fragrant in taste. Juice is fleshy, acid-refreshing in taste and a little bit seedy.
-Colour: Yellow, to Orange, to red-pigmented, to purple according to climate conditions.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to ripen from November to Spring, according to the flowering time.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring, then it can continue during Summmer, and sometimes Autumn also.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: For its particular colour, Wined Red Lemon can be used squeezed or zested, according to your needs in the kitchen.
Also candied it’s a great choice!
You can make delicious cakes, marmalades and liquors with it.
-Ornamental: For its colour, is one of the most ornamental lemon variety of our greenhouse.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
