Castagnetola Lumia (Citrus lumia)
DESCRIPTION
Castagnetola Lumia (Citrus lumia) is a particular “lemon variety” of our collection.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know its origin, it probably comes from southern Italy.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is medium vigorous in shape, with long branches which tend to lignify quickly.
-Leaves: Leaves are round to lanceolate, bright green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a big lemon, pear-shaped to round.
-Flavour: It tastes just like a classic lemon inside. Skin is very aromatic.
-Colour: Light yellow to deep yellow according to the harvesting time.
Pulp is usually light yellow.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to ripen during Winter. However fruits can be produced in other seasons of the year.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: As a big lemon, you can use Castagnetola Lumia to zest its skin, or to squeeze its juice.
-Ornamental: It’s a good ornamental choice for its shape and its big fruit.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
