DESCRIPTION
Avana Mandarin (Citrus reticulata) is a particular high quality and early ripening Citrus variety.
ORIGIN
It seems to originate from Sicily, where it’s been selected.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is usually compact-spherical in shape with short internodes and just a few thorns.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate in shape, small in size and bright green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is usually round to slightly flattened at the poles in shape.
-Flavour: Avana Mandarin is highly intense and sweet in taste. It’s a little bit seedy inside.
-Colour: Bright orange to deep orange outside, according to the harvesting time.
Pulp is usually light orange to bright orange.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: This is a early Citrus variety. It starts to produce from October-November.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time. Flowers are white in colour and very fragrant.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Fruit is so intense in taste. That’s why it can be used in different ways:
you can zest it, squeeze it, cut it into many aromatic pieces. You can add it to fish, meat, marmalades, honey, tea, and a bilions of recipes more.
-Ornamental: It’s a nice ornamental variety for its shape and its fruit.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -7°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
