DESCRIPTION
Miyagawa Satsuma Mandarin (Citrus unshiu) is an early ripening mandarin variety.
ORIGIN
It comes from Japan, where it’s been highly grown for hundreds of years, for its cold tolerance and its sweetness.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is very particular in shape. Branches tend to be long and falling in growing.
-Leaves: Long, lanceolate with visible veins leaves, dark-green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is rount to slightly oboval at the petiol, or sometimes flattened at the pole.
-Flavour: It’s very sweet and juicy. Sometimes seeds can be found.
-Colour: Green Orange to Orange according to the harvesting time.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to be ready in October, when it’s still green oustide. Then it holds well on the tree for several months.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Miyagawa Satsuma Mandarin can be used in the kitchen, just like a classic mandarin.
So you can squeeze it, zest it or simply eat it piece after piece!
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful ornamental plant, for its tendency to hold fruits on the tree.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -10°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
