Variegated Satsuma Mandarin (Citrus unshiu foliis variegatis) is a particular rare Citrus variety of our collection.
We still don’t know its origin. It probably comes from Japan.
-Tree features: Plant is usually compact-spherical in shape.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate, and extremely variegated in colour. This is probably one of the best mixture of colours in a variegated variety.
-Shape: Fruit looks like a classic Satsuma Mandarin. It’s round to slightly oval to oblate.
-Flavour: It’s sweet and very juicy inside. Sometimes little seeds can be found.
-Colour: It’s deep orange in colour when fully ripened, but it can also be eaten when green.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It’s a early Citrus variety. It starts to ripen from September to November. It can also be picked when it’s green.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: It can be used just like a classic mandarin. You can squeeze it, or zest it according to your needs.
-Ornamental: It’s one of the most beautiful and particular ornamental variety. For its colour, variegated Satsuma Mandarin is unique.
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -10°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
