DESCRIPTION
Meli Tarocco Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis) is a particular and traditional tarocco variety.
ORIGIN
It probably comes from southern Italy.
PLANT
-Tree features: It’s a vigorous variety, with long falling branches, which tend to be thorny sometimes.
-Leaves: Big, lanceolate to round-shaped leaves, bright green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is usually round to slightly oval in shape.
-Flavour: It’s a sweet, juicy and usually seedless variety.
-Colour: Orange to deep-orange outside.
Pulp is usually orange, to red-pigmented depending on climate conditions.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It’s a late Tarocco variety. Meli Tarocco Sweet Orange tends to ripen during Spring time (March to May).
It usually starts to bloom during Spring too.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: It’s a fleshy citrus variety. So you can use it to make salads, marmalades, cakes, liquor and a bilion of different recipes.
-Ornamental: It’s a vigorous strong variety to see.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -9°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
