DESCRIPTION
Messina Tarocco Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis) is a traditional tarocco variety in our collection.
ORIGIN
It comes from Sicily, southern Italy, where it’s highly grown.
PLANT
-Tree features: Typical long, falling and a little bit thorny branches, which create a particular shape. Plant is medium in vigour.
-Leaves: Lanceolate leaves, which seems to be similar to those of the peach in shape.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is usually oval to slightly round.
-Flavour: It’s a sweet, juicy and usually seedless variety.
-Colour: Orange to deep-orange outside, orange to red-pigmented inside depending on climate conditions.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It’s a late ripening variety. It usually ripens during Spring time.
Messina Tarocco Sweet Orange usually starts to bloom during spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: bloody juices are a must! You can squeeze the fruit, zest it, or cut it into pieces according to your need.
You’ll be satisfied in the kitchen!
-Ornamental: It’s a typical sicilian variety in shape, with a good traditional ornamental value.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -9°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
