DESCRIPTION
Variegated Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis) is a particular Citrus variety in our collection.
ORIGIN
It probably originates from southern Italy, especially Sicily.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant tends to be compact and spherical in shape. Branches can be a little bit thorny.
-Leaves: Lanceolate, variegated leaves in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is usually round- shaped.
-Flavour: It’s sweet, highly juicy and seedy inside.
-Colour: Variegated skin when not completely ripened. When it starts to ripen it becomes yellow-deep yellow.
Pulp is usually pink-orange inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to ripen from January to March according to climate conditions.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: You can peel it and eat it like a classic orange.
Its high juice content makes it a good choice to be squeezed too. You can also zest it to make cakes!
-Ornamental: Variegated Sweet Orange is a great ornamental choice, due to its shape and its intense colour.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -8°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
