Thai Pomelo (Citrus grandis)

DESCRIPTION
Thai Pomelo is a unique Citrus variety of our collection

ORIGIN

This variety probably comes from South-eastern Asia, more precisely, as the name suggest, from Thailand.

PLANT

-Tree features: The plant is vigorous, with big-strong branches (with a typical hair)
-Leaves: Leaves are light green in colour, very big in size, lanceolate to double in shape.

FRUIT

-Shape: The fruit is a giant oriental Pomelo, sometimes a little bit oblate to pear shaped in shape, very big in size (it can be more than 3kg).
-Flavour: Thai Pomelo has an interesting flavour. It’s usually sweet with a slightly acid-sour aftertaste.
-Colour: The colour is green to light yellow on the outside, light yellow to slightly pink on the inside.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: Fruits tend to ripen from mid November to the end of December, according to the season.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: Fruits can be used just like a classic grapefruit. Skin is also used to be candied, or to produce interesting cakes and liquors.
-Ornamental: Dued to its impressive shape and size, this variety has a very high ornamental value.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -3°C.

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
