DESCRIPTION
Ichangensis x Trifoliate orange x Satsuma Mandarin is a cold hardy Citrus variety coming probably from northern Europe.
ORIGIN
It probably comes from northern Europe
PLANT
-Tree features: The plant has usually a medium vigour, with double-long leaves, and thorns.
-Leaves: Leaves are dark green in colour, with a typical “double” shape, medium in size.
FRUIT
-Shape: The fruit is just more or less a big lemon in shape, and it tends to be more oblate.
-Flavour: The flavour is very interesting. It’s similar to a Yuzu in taste, but much more juicy and rich.
-Colour: The colour is yellow to deep yellow outside, light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: Ichangensis x Trifoliate Orange x Satsuma Mandarin usually ripens from the beginning to mid- November, until December about.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: The fruit can be used in different ways. Just like a Yuzu, to make amazing marmalades, desserts, cakes, ice creams, or with chocolate.
But also in salty recipes, to prepare dressings for seafood recipes, but also with meat.
-Ornamental: It’s a very interesting ornamental plant, considering its interesting cold hardiness.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -10°C:
