DESCRIPTION
Trifoliate Orange (Poncirus trifoliata) is one of the most cold tollerant Citrus varieties of our collection.
This is highly used as a rootstock, for its slow growing style and its cold tollerance.

ORIGIN

We still don’t know its origin, it’s one of the most ancient Citrus variety.
It probably comes from Asia.

PLANT

-Tree features: Plant is very slow in vigour, very thorny, and tends to lose leaves during winter.
-Leaves: Leaves are typically trilobate, dark green in colour and slighty red during Winter.

FRUIT

-Shape: Fruit is a little round-shaped orange. Skin has those typical hair.
-Flavour: Fruit is composed of a sticky juice, and an aromatic skin.
-Colour: Yellow to orange-yellow outside, light yellow and very seedy inside.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: It starts to ripen from October to January according to climate conditions.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
Flowers are beautiful and fragrant.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: Trifoliate Orange is a particular Citrus to use in the kitchen.
For its sticky texture, it can be only used to make marmalades.
-Ornamental: It’s one of the best ornamental variety for its particular shape and its cold tollerance.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -15°C.

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
