DESCRIPTION
Willow-Leaf Bitter Orange (Citrus aurantium) is a particular cold tollerant Citrus variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
We stil don’t know its origin at the moment.
It probably comes from Southern Italy, as a natural mutation of a classic Bitter Orange.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is very particular in shape. Long and falling branches, which resemble to the Willow tree.
-Leaves: Leaves are long in shape, and as the name suggest “willow-shaped”.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a classic bitter orange in shape and size.
-Flavour: Skin is very intense in aroma. Pulp is juicy, seedy and bitter-refreshing in taste.
-Colour: Orange to deep orange outside, light orange inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: This is a 4 season Variety. Fruits start to ripen from Winter to Spring time, depending on flowering.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time, but flowers can be discovered in different periods of the year.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Willow-Leaf Bitter Orange can be highly used in the kitchen.
Skin can be zested or candied according to your needs.
You can make marmalades, liquors, but also extract essential oils, which are amazing.
-Ornamental: For its particular shape, it is one of the most ornamental Citrus variety of our collection.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -12°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
