DESCRIPTION
Melangolo Bitter Orange (Citrus aurantium) is the classic Bitter Orange.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know its origin at the moment.
We do know it’s been highly grown thousands of years ago, by the arabs, which brought it to Southern Italy, Sicily.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is vigorous in shape, with long, strong thorny branches.
-Leaves: Leaves are medium-big in size, lanceolate in shape and dark-green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit can be round to slightly flattened in shape, medium in size.
-Flavour: Skin is very aromatic in flavour, pulp is acid to bitter in taste.
-Colour: Orange to deep orange outside, light orange inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It is a 4 season Citrus variety. Fruits starts to be ready from Winter, but hold exceptionally well on trees.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring, but also Summer and sometimes Autumn.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Melangolo Bitter Orange can be highly used in the kitchen.
Marmalades are an amazing choice to use it. But also candied peels, liquors, and the essential oils extraction.
-Ornamental: For its cold tollerance, this variety has been used as ornament in different Cities.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -15°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
