DESCRIPTION
Centennial Variegated Kumquat (Citrus sinensis x Fortunella margarita) is a particular variegated hybrid.
ORIGIN
It seems to origin from U.S.
It’s the result of a spontaneous variegated mutation observed in the US.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is highly compacted and spherical in shape.
-Leaves: leaves are small, round-shape to slightly lanceolate, and extremely variegated in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: At maturity, the fruits acquire an orange color and the striping becomes less pronounced. The fruits are oval and necked, up to two and one-half inches long, with a smooth rind.
-Flavour: The flesh is acidic, juicy, light orange, and low-seeded.
-Colour: Variegated to bright orange according to harvesting time.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It’s a 4 season variety, so it basically produces fruit every season of the year.
It usually starts to bloom during Summer as a classic Kumquat.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: It can be eaten just like a kumquat, it’s delicious.
You can also make amazing marmalades, liquors, cakes with it.
-Ornamental: Centennial Variegated Kumquat is one of the best ornamental citrus of our collection, for its colour and its shape.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -8°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
