“Lemon Cedrato” (Citrus limonimedica)

DESCRIPTION
“Lemon Cedrato” (Citrus limonimedica) is a traditional unique citrus variety of our collection

ORIGIN

It probably comes from southern Italy, but we think the Medici family of Florence have also grown it in Tuscany.

PLANT

-Tree features: The plant is very similar to a classic lemon in therms of growth, size and shape.
-Leaves: Leaves are light green in colour, usually bigger than the lemon ones, lanceolate.

FRUIT

-Shape: The fruit is a magnificent big lemon, with a big skin and a brilliant yellow colour.
-Flavour: It basically tastes like a classic lemon.
-Colour: The colour can be light green to light yellow, becoming also dark yellow during Winter time.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: “Lemon Cedrato” usually ripens during Winter, but plants are 4 seasons in producing, so we can see fruits and flowers 2-3 times a year.
It usually starts to bloom duuring Spring, but flowers can be produced even in Summer time and Autumn time.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: This unique big lemon can be used in a milion of ways. Squeezed, zested, used to make amazing limoncello, salads and desserts, but also marmalades and ice creams.
-Ornamental: Due to its 4 season tendency, it’s considered a nice ornamental plant as well.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -5°C, but we think it could be hardier.

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
