Melanesian Papeda (Citrus macroptera)
DESCRIPTION
Melanesian Papeda (Citrus macroptera) is a particular citrus variety.
ORIGIN
It comes from south-eastern Asia, Melanesia, but we don’t know what’s its exact story.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is very compact in shape, with long branches which tend to lignify quickly.
-Leaves: Leaves are one of the main caracteristics of this variety. Bilobate, big, estremely dark green , and very, very fragrant leaves.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is usually round to slightly pear-shaped at the petiol. Small-medium in size.
-Flavour: It’s acid inside, but juice and skin are very fragrant. You can smell a particular limette aroma.
-Colour: Skin is usually green.
Pulp tends to be light green in colour.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: Melanesian Papeda starts to produce from September to November according to climate conditions.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: We’ve never tried it in the kitchen, but we think you can make something particular with it.
-Ornamental: It’s a very nice looking variety for its leaves and its particular aroma.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -5°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
