Bizzarre Lemon (Citrus limon)
DESCRIPTION
Bizzarre Lemon (Citrus limon) is an ancient citrus variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
Its origin is not clear, it probably comes from an old mutation.
We currently know that it was cultivated in the Medici gardens of Florence, many years ago.
PLANT
-Tree features: The plant is very similar to a classic lemon in growth.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate, pretty long in shape, medium-big in size, a little bit “serrated”, light green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: As the name suggest, the “Bizzarre Lemon” is very unique. It’s a particular lemon, it can be furrowed, but also strange in shape.
-Flavour: The flavour is the one of a classic lemon.
-Colour: It can be light green to deep yellow according to the ripening time.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It usually produces fruits during winter, but fruits can be produced even during Spring time.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: The Bizzarre lemon can be used like a classic lemon. It’s delicious used to make cakes, desserts, salads, marmalades, or simply squeezed or zested.
-Ornamental: For its unique shape, it’s considered one of the most particular citrus variety
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
