Shambar Pink Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi)
DESCRIPTION
Shambar Pink Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) is a particular pink grapefruit variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
Reported to be a limb sport of Marsh seedless discovered in California.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is usually spherical to compacted in shape. Sometimes little thorns can be found too.
-Leaves: Leaves can be lanceolate to round-shaped, and bright green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Shambar Pink Grapefruit is usually round shaped, medium in size.
-Flavour: It tastes sweet, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Pulp is highly juicy and usually seedless.
-Colour: It’s orange to pink-orange outside.
Pulp is light pink in colour.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to produce from December to February according to climate conditions. Fruit can hold well on the tree.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: As a Grapefruit you can squeeze it to make an amazing pink juice.
Skin can also be candied, or zested.
Marmalades are a good choice!
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful ornamental variety for its shape and its colour.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -8°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
