Thornless double Hindsii (Fortunella hindsii)
DESCRIPTION
Thornless double Hindsii (Fortunella hindsii) is a wild cold resistent Kumquat variety.
ORIGIN
It probably originates from China, since it’s been highly grown for hundreds of years.
PLANT
-Tree features: It’s one of the most compact and spherical variety in our collection. As the name suggest, thorns are not found.
-Leaves: Small, lanceolate and very long leaves, dark-green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is very small and round-shaped.
-Flavour: It tastes a little bit bitter/acid inside. It can be seedy too.
-Colour: Orange to deep orange depending on the harvesting time.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: Thornless double Hindsii usually ripens during winter. Anyway fruits can be produced in other periods of the year.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring, but it can produce flowers in other seasons.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Its culinary use is not so relevant.
-Ornamental: it’s one of the most beautiful and ornamentally important Citrus.
Its cold resistence, and its attitude to produce a lot of fruits and flowers, makes it a really interesting variety
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -10°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
