Shangyuan Ichang Lemon (Citrus ichangensis)

DESCRIPTION
Shangyuan Ichang Lemon (Citrus ichangensis) is a cold hardy Lemon coming from Cina.
It’s well known to be a very useful “lemon alternative” for colder climates, even if the texture and the flavour are not the same of a classic lemon.

PLANT
-Tree features: Compact and spherical in shape. Branches are thorny and dense.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate, dark-green in colour, sometimes slightly bilobate too.

FRUIT
Shape: Shangyuan Ichang Lemon is a round lemon. Sometimes it’s slighly oblate at the petiol.
-Taste: It tastes like a lemon, a little bit more acid. Its skin has an intense aroma, typical of the Yuzu parent. It’s juicy and acid inside, and usually seedy.
-Colour: Ichang Lemon is bright yellow to deep yellow depending on the harvesting time.

SEASON OF RIPENESS
It starts to ripen from November to February about. However, it tends to hold on well on the tree.
It usually blooms during Spring time.

HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: It can be used zested just like a classic lemon.
It can also be used squeezed, candied or to make delicious marmalades.
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful dark-green plant, which is also tollerant to cold.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -12°C.

This variety needs to be grown like a normal Lemon.
