Pink Pomelo (Citrus grandis)
DESCRIPTION
Pink Pomelo (Citrus grandis) is one particular variety of Pomelo, highly grown in Asia.
Have you ever been to Thailand? Walking trough the streets people use to sell this giant fruits, like oranges for us!
PLANT
-Tree features: It’s a vigorous Citrus, with long branches, which tend to lignify quickly!
-Leaves: Giant dark-red leaves, with hairs.
FRUIT
–Shape: Round to oval, depending on the growth.
-Taste: It tastes sweet if completely ripened. Skin is so fragrant, pulp tends to be fleshy and sweet.
-Colour: Yellow to deep yellow outside, light pink to pink inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Pink Pomelo starts to ripen from November about, however, sometimes it can hold on the tree for several months.
It usually blooms during Spring. Sometimes flowers can be found in other seasons of the year.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Have you ever tried a Pomelo Salad? It’s amazing!
You can also make delicious candied slices, or simply eating it like a Grapefruit.
-Ornamental: It’s a big strong plant, especially with those giant fruits, (sometimes more than 2kg of weight!)
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C.
This variety needs to be grown like a normal Lemon.
