Ruby Clementine (Citrus clementina)
DESCRIPTION
Ruby Clementine (Citrus clementina) is one of the most particular citrus variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know exactly its origin.
It probably comes from Southern Italy, as a mutation from a classic clementine.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is so vigorous, with long branches growing strong and dense. Shape is compact-spherical.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate in shape, extremely dark-green in colour, with short internodes.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is just like a classic clementine in size and shape!
-Flavour: Pulp is so fleshy, and bloody tasting. You can smell and see how it is rich in antioxidants.
-Colour: Colour is amazing: Fruit can become red to purple, and sometimes black in colour inside.
Skin can produce red-purplish pigments according to the climate.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to produce fruits from December to Spring, according to the flowering.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time: flowers are white and so intense in aroma.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Ruby Clementine can be highly used in the kitchen.
For its amazing colour, it can be squeezed to make delicious juices.
Pulp can be ate with erbs to make a fine particular salads, or to produce marmalades, cakes and ice creams.
Skin can be candied too.
-Ornamental: Plant is a great ornamental choice for its vigour and its amazing fruit.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -8°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
