Pear-shaped Big Lemon (Citrus limon)
DESCRIPTION
Pear-shaped Big Lemon (Citrus sinensis) is a giant particular lemon variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know its origin at the moment, but we know it has been grown for years by the Medici family, in Florence.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is medium-high in vigour, with long, green and sometimes thorny branches.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate in shape, medium in size, dark-green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a big-giant lemon “pear-shaped” as the name suggest.
-Flavour: Pulp is juicy, a little bit seedy and so refreshing.
Skin is usually aromatic in flavour.
-Colour: Bright yellow to deep yellow outside according to the harvesting time, light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: Pear-shaped big Lemon tends to ripen during Winter. Anyway it can produce fruits in different periods of the year.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time, but sometimes even during Summer and Autumn flowers can be produced.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: This big Lemon can be highly used in the kitchen.
You can zest the skin, to aromatize amazing fish and meat recipes. You can also make liquors, marmalades, ice creams, cakes with it!
-Ornamental: It’s a good valued ornamental variety for its big fruit!
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
