Yuzu (Citrus junos) is a high quality citrus variety of our collection

ORIGIN

Yuzu is the most popular of the acid citrus used in food preparation in East Asia. Tanaka wrote that it was thought to have originated in Korea and from there was introduced into China, and eventually made its way into southern Japan during the Tang Dynasty approximately 1,000 years ago.

Exactly in Japan, has been cultivated for thousands of years and now has become a symbol of japanes culture and quality around the World.

PLANT

-Tree features: Plant is so vigorous, with long thorny branches, which tend to create a spherical arbustive shape.
-Leaves: leaves are so intense in aroma. They are lanceolate, sometimes double, and extremely dark-green in colour.

FRUIT

-Shape: Fruit is similar to a classic mandarin in shape and size.
-Flavour: Skin has an amazing intense aroma, pulp is not so juicy, and it’s rich in seeds.
-Colour: Light yellow to deep orange-yellow when fully ripened.
Pulp is light yellow in colour.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: It starts to produce from October to December according to climate conditions.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time. Flowers are white and they smell great.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: Yuzu has been highly used in the fine dining.
Chefs around the World use it to make delicious and high quality fish and meat recipes.
Fruit is also used to make amazing marmalades, liquors, ice creams, and delicious desserts.

-Ornamental: It’s a nice looking ornamental variety for its cold tollerance and its shape.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -10°C.

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
