Vietnamese Red Pomelo (Citrus grandis) is a unique variety in our collection
ORIGIN
As the name suggests it comes from Asia, more precisely Vietnam, where it’s highly grown
PLANT
-Tree features: It usually is very vigorous, strong, as other Pomelo varieties.
-Leaves: Leaves are very big, deep green in colour, lanceolate to slightly double in shape.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is usually very big, oval to slightly pear in shape.
-Flavour: It tastes like a classic pomelo
-Colour: The colour is amazing: It’s usually yellow to deep orange, but sometimes (when especially the plant is in open ground) it can also be deep red, with yellow shades
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: Red Vientamese Pomelo usually ripens during February-March, but fruits can stay on plants for a longer time
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: This unique red Pomelo can be used in the kitchen just like any other pomelos. We can produce candied peels, but segments can be eaten just like a classic grapefruit.
Also, to create unique asian desserts-dishes
-Ornamental: Due to its awesome size, colour and shape, this is a unique ornamental variety.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -4°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
