Tavares Limequat (Citrus aurantifolia x Fortunella margarita)
DESCRIPTION
Tavares Limequat is believed to be a hybrid of the West Indian lime and the oval kumquat
ORIGIN
We still don’t know exactly its origin.
It seems to originate from Mexico, someone think it’s from Florida.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is compacted in shape, medium in growth.
-Leaves: Leaves are medium-small in size, lanceolate in shape and bright green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is medium-small in size, oval in shape. It seems like a big yellow Kumquat.
-Flavour: Its taste is the exact mix between a Kumquat and a Lime. It’s a little bit seedy, and very juicy
-Colour: Bright yellow to deep yellow outside, according to climate conditions,
light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to ripen from January to Summer.
It usually starts to bloom from May to September, following a cyclical way.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Tavares Limequat can be highly used in the kitchen.
For its refreshing aroma it can be added to fish and meat, salads and cakes!
You can basically zest it or eat it just like a classic kumqua!
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful ornamental variety for its shape and colour.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
