Turkish Bitter Orange (Citrus aurantium turcicum salicifolia)

DESCRIPTION
Turkish Bitter Orange (Citrus aurantium turcicum salicifolia) is a particular rare, and cold tollerant Citrus variety.

ORIGIN

It seems to originate from Turkey, where it’s been discovered as a mutation from a classic Bitter Orange.

PLANT

-Tree features: Plant is very particular in shape: it is falling in growth, similar to a willow tree, that’s why of its name.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate, variegated in colour and medium-big in size.

FRUIT

-Shape: Fruit is a medium-small round bitter orange in size and shape.
-Flavour: Skin is very aromatic in taste, pulp is bitter-refreshing in flavour.
-Colour: Fruit is variegated at first, then it becomes deep yellow when fully ripened.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: Turkish Bitter orange starts to ripen from December to Spring, depending on flowering.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: Fruit can be used in the kitchen, just like any other bitter orange.
You can make amazing marmalades, liquors, parfumes, cosmetics with it.
-Ornamental: For its particular shape and colour, it’s one of the best ornamental Citrus varieties.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of  – 12°C.

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
