Citrumelo Swingle x Orange (Poncirus trifoliata x Citrus sinensis) x Citrus sinensis) is one of the most cold tollerant Citrus we have in our greenhouse.
We still don’t know its origin.
-Tree features: Plant has a high posture, very vigorous, with long and thorny branches.
-Leaves: Leaves are trilobate (typical of the Poncirus trifoliata) and dark-green in colour.
–Shape: Fruit is round-shaped, and presents hair on the skin.
-Taste: It tastes bitter/acid, and it can be seedy inside.
-Colour: Orange to deep orange depending on the harvesting time.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Citrumelo Swingle x Orange starts to ripen from November to January about.
It usually blooms during Spring Time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: due to its sticky juice, and the hairy skin is not usable in the kitchen
-Ornamental: high ornamental value, because of its cold tollerance and its tendency to produce fruits.
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -12°C.
This variety needs to be grown like a classic Lemon.
