Sunko Kan Orange (Citrus sinensis)

DESCRIPTION
Sunko Kan Orange (Citrus sinensis) is a particular variety of our collection.
It’s an interesting variety for its cold hardiness.

ORIGIN

It probably comes from Asia (maybe Japan) but we still didn’t know its exact origin.

PLANT

-Tree features: Plants has a medium-high vigour, similar to the Sweet-bitter oranges one.
-Leaves: leaves are large, lanceolate to slightly round, dark green in colour.

FRUIT

-Shape: Sunko Kan Orange is usually round to slightly flattened at the poles, medium in size.
-Flavour: It tastes like a classic orange, juicy inside, usually seedless, but sometimes a few seeds can be found.
-Colour: When fully ripened it becomes light yellow in color outside, and light yellow inside.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: The fruit’s usually ready in Winter, but it lasts on the plants for a couple of months about.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: Fruits can be used just like any other classic oranges: marmelades, cakes, or just eaten in pieces.
-Ornamental: For it’s dark green color and the light yellow fruits this variety has a nice ornamental value.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -10°C

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
