Sanguinello Blood Orange (Citrus sinensis)

DESCRIPTION
Sanguinello Blood Orange (Citrus sinensis) is actually a symbol of Italian culture and tradition around the World.

ORIGIN
It comes from Southern Italy, where it’s been highly grown for years, especially in Sicily region.

PLANT

-Tree features: Plant is medium in vigour, with long and sometimes thorny branches, which often tend to fall.
-Leaves: Leaves are medium-big in size, lanceolate to round shaped and bright green in colour.

FRUIT

-Shape: Fruit is usually oval in shape, medium in size.
-Flavour: Pulp is very juicy, sweet with a bloody aftertaste.
-Colour: Skin is orange to deep orange in colour.
Pulp can be orange to more or less red-pigmented according to climate conditions.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: It starts to be ready for harvesting from January-February about.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: Sanguinello Blood Orange can be highly used in the kitchen just like any other orange variety.
As you maybe already know, it can be used to make amazing red orange juices.
Pulp can be used to make salads, marmalades too.
Skin can be zested to give your desserts and salty recipes a special flavour.
-Ornamental: It’s a good ornamental choice for its shape.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -8°C.

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
