Pear-shaped Lumia or Pera del Commendatore (Citrus lumia)
DESCRIPTION
Pear-shaped Lumia or Pera del Commendatore (Citrus lumia) is a traditional italian variety coming from Sicily.
PLANT
-Tree features: Long branches create a particular shape. It tends to be compact but not so spherical in looking.
-Leaves: Leaves are extremely lanceolate, sometimes falling, with visible veins.
FRUIT
–Shape: Its shape is unique. The Pear-shaped Lumia, as the name suggest, is a yellow big pear. A long petiol then enlarge itself and becomes round in shape.
-Taste: It tastes like a classic lemon. Skin is quite bigger, and there are a few seeds inside.
-Colour: Bright yellow to deep yellow in colour, depending on the harvesting time.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Pear-shaped Lumia is a 4 season variety. It produces fruits every season of the year (except for winter, obviously).
It usually blooms during Spring, but it can also produce flowers during Summer and Autumn.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: This big yellow pear lemon, can be obviously used squeezed. Its skin can be zested too.
You can make delicious cakes with it! Or add it to fish, meat, vegetables!
-Ornamental: It’s ornamental value is amazing. Plants can be so vigorous, producing those impressive pear lemons.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -7°C.
This variety needs to be grown like a normal Lemon.
