Round Kumquat or Marumi (Fortunella japonica)
DESCRIPTION
Round Kuquat or Marumi (Fortunella japonica) is one of the best high quality kumquats of our collection.
ORIGIN
Also named as “Kinkan”, or commonly “Chinese Mandarin” it seems to come from Japan, where it’s been highly grown for years.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plants are usually compact to spherical in shape, and thornless.
-Leaves: Leaves are lanceolate, medium-small in size, bright to dark-green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a small “Round Kumquat” as the name suggest.
-Flavour: It’s one of the sweetest kumquats we’ve ever tried, for its fleshy pulp, which is bigger in skin than a classic Kumquat.
-Colour: Orange to deep orange outside, light orange inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to ripen from November to Spring, according to the climate and the flowering time.
It usually starts to bloom from May to September, following a cyclical way.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: This fruit is amazing in the kitchen.
You can litterally eat the whole fruit, it’s a pleasure!
You can use it to be candied, to make cakes, to prepare delicious marmalades, liquors and different kind of sauces.
-Ornamental: It’s a nice looking ornamental variety for its shape and its bright colour.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -8°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
