DESCRIPTION
Bread Citron (Citrus medica) is one of the best quality Citron variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
It comes from Southern Italy, where it’s been highly grown for years.
people used to eat it like a piece of “bread”, that’s why of its name.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is medium in vigour, with long and sometimes falling branches.
-Leaves: Leaves are somewhat round to heart-shaped, medium in size and bright green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is an oval to oblate medium Citron in size and shape.
-Flavour: It’s one of the sweetest Citrons known.
Skin can be ate bite after bite, there’s no bitter at all!
Pulp is acid but good in the mouth, you can combine skin to juice to make amazing salads.
-Colour: Light yellow to bright yellow according to climate conditions.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to be ready from Winter to Spring according to flowering time
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time, but flowers can be produced in different seasons of the year.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Bread Citron can be highly used in the kitchen.
It is the best Citrus fruit to make amazing salads, but also to be candied, or zested according to your needs.
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful ornamental plant.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
