DESCRIPTION
Variegated Bread Citron (Citrus medica) as the name suggest is a particular high quality Citron variety of our collection.

ORIGIN

It probably originates from southern Italy.

PLANT

-Tree features: Plant is medium in vigour, with long branches which tends to lignify quickly (typical of the Citron).
-Leaves: Leaves are variegated in colour, usually more round shaped than lanceolate. Sometimes thorns can be found too.

FRUIT

-Shape: Fruit is usually oval to pear-shaped, medium to big in size.
-Flavour: It’s one of the most high quality Citron we have in our collection.
Albedo (White skin) can be eaten like an apple, it’s very sweet and fleshy (from there the name “Variegated Bread Citron”).
-Colour: It’s  variegated when not ripened, then it becomes light yellow outside.
Pulp is usually bright yellow.

SEASON OF RIPENESS

Season of ripeness: It starts to ripen from November to February about, anyway fruits can hold well on the tree for several months.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.

HOW TO USE IT

-In the Kitchen: We think this is one of the Citron best selection to eat.
It’s the perfect choice to make amazing Citron salads. It can also be candied, or zested to make liquors and different kind of recipes.

-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful plant for its variegated colour.

COLD RESISTENCE

According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -5°C

This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
