Tarocco Gallo Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)
DESCRIPTION
Tarocco Gallo sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis) is a traditional high quality orange variety in our greenhouse.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know its origin.
We do know it’s highly grown in Southern Italy, Calabria and Sicily regions.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is medium in vigour, with long, a little bit thorny and sometimes falling branches.
-Leaves: Leaves are medium big in size, lanceolate to round-shaped and bright green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a medium round to slightly oval orange in size and shape.
-Flavour: Pulp is fleshy, usually seedless and very sweet.
-Colour: Orange to deep orange outside. Pulp can be orange to red pigmented according to climate during Winter.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: Fruit starts to ripen from December-January about.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Tarocco Gallo sweet Orange is a good choice in the kitchen.
Fruits can be used to make amazing marmalades, liquors, candied peels and also salads.
-Ornamental: it’s a good ornamental choice for its colour and its particular shape.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -8°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
