DESCRIPTION
Giant Kumquat (Fortunella margarita) is a delicious Citrus variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
It probably originates from China, but we’re not sure about it.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant tends to be very compact and spherical in shape. Just a few thorns are usually found.
-Leaves: Lanceolate, dark green in colour and long leaves. Short internodes make it one of the most compact shaped variety.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is usually oval in shape, bigger than a classic kumquat, that’s why of its name.
-Flavour: It’s very sweet! Skin and juice create a perfect taste. Some seeds can be found.
-Colour: It’s orange to deep orange depending on the harvesting time.
Pulp is usually light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It usually ripens gradually from November to April /may.
It usually starts to bloom during Summer time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: If you know how to eat kumquats, then this fruit is for you!
If you don’t know it, you should try! Eating the whole fruit is a pleasure!
It’s sweet and it’s addictive!
-Ornamental: It’s a nice looking ornamental plant, because of its shape and bright colours.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -8°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
