Citrange Carrizo (Citrus triptera x Citrus sinensis)
DESCRIPTION
Citrange Carrizo (Citrus triptera x Citrus sinensis) is one of the most cold resistent and vigorous Citrus of our collection.
For its feature, it’s hihly used as a rootstock all over the world.
This variety comes from a cross between a Trifoliate Orange and a Sweet Orange.
So it basically takes the cold tollerance from the first, and the vigour from the second one.
ORIGIN
It comes from the US.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plants are usually extremely vigorous and strong in growth.
You can see those big thorny branches growing very high, lignifying quickly.
-Leaves: Leaves are trifoliate like a Poncirus, but bigger, and dark-green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit resembles to a medium orange in shape and size.
-Flavour: it’s so juicy, but it’s also a little bit sticky. It usually contains a lot of seeds, accordin to climate conditions.
-Colour: Light yellow to Dark-yellow outside, light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to be redy for harvesting from October to January according to climate conditions.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: We’ve never tried it in the Kitchen, as it contains a sticky substance.
-Ornamental: It’s one of the most important ornamental Citrus we know, for its cold tollerance and its vigour.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -15°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
