Staccia Orange (Citrus sinensis)
DESCRIPTION
Staccia Orange (Citrus sinensis) is a particular variety in our collection, coming from southern Italy.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant tends to be vigorous, with a typical spherical shape, resembling the one of a Navel Orange.
-Leaves: medium – big dark green lanceolate leaves.
Sometimes little thorns can be found.
FRUIT
-Taste: It’s so sweet and fleshy inside. Skin tends to be bigger than a classic Navel Orange.
Sometimes Staccia Orange can also produce very big fruits!
-Colour: Light orange to deep orange depending on the time of harvesting.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
It starts to ripen from mid-November to February, according to climate conditions.
It usually blooms during Spring.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Its big skin can be used candied, or zested to make delicious cakes, limoncello, or simply to add a special aroma to fish and meat.
It’s also good to make marmalades and salads.
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful plant, especially when it produces big orange fruits.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -8°C
This variety needs to be grown like a normal Lemon.
