DESCRIPTION
Fantastic Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) is one of the most traditional bergamots of Southern Italy.
ORIGIN
It originates from Calabria, where it’s been highly grown for hundreds of years, becoming a symbol of tradition and calabrian culture.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plants are medium in vigour, with long green branches, growing long and sometimes falling.
-Leaves: leaves are lanceolate in shape, medium in size, dark-green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a classic medium-small bergamot, sometimes oblate at the petiol.
-Flavour: Skin is extremely aromatic, intense in flavour. Pulp is bitter, with the classic bergamot aroma.
-Colour: Light yellow to deep yellow outside depending on climate conditions, light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to be ready from January to Spring. However many people use it when it’s still green.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Fantastic Bergamot can be used in different types of recipes.
You can use it to make amazing marmalades, or zesting it to make delicious cakes.
Liquors are also a great choice, but bergamots has always been used to produce high quality parfumes.
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful ornamental plant for its shape and its colour.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -6°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
