DESCRIPTION
Bajoura Sicilian Citron (Citrus medica) is one of the most high quality citrons of our collection.
ORIGIN
It comes from Southern Italy, Sicily, where it’s been highly grown for years.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plants is medium in vigour, with big thorny branches, which tend to lignify quickly as every citron.
-Leaves: Leaves are big in size, round to lanceolate in shape, and dark green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is somewhat round-shaped to oval shaped, big in size.
-Flavour: Skin (albedo) is very sweet and refreshing in taste. Pulp is juicy and similar to a lemon in flavour.
-Colour: Bright yellow to deep yellow outside, light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: Bajoura Sicilian Citron usually starts to ripen during Winter, but fruits can hold on the tree until Spring time.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time, but flowers can be produced in other periods of the year.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Fruit is qualitative high in the kitchen.
You can use the white albedo to make delicious Citron salads, or simply to be candied.
You can zest the skin and use the pulp also to make amazing recipes.
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful ornamental plant for its particular shape and its colour.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -5°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
