Candied Rough Citron (Citrus medica)
DESCRIPTION
Candied Rough Citron (Citrus medica) is a particular citron variety of our collection.
ORIGIN
We still don’t know its origin at the moment. It probably comes from Southern Italy.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant is medium in vigour, with long branches which tend to lignify quickly.
-Leaves: Leaves are medium-big in size, lanceolate in shape and dark-green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is a Big rough Citron, oval to round to slightly oboval in shape.
-Flavour: Skin is extremely aromatic. It somwehat resembles to a bergamot in flavour. Pulp is acid-refreshing, with a bitter aftertaste.
-Colour: Light yellow to bright yellow outside, light yellow inside.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It starts to ripen from Winter to Spring time according to climate conditions and flowering time.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring, but flowers can be produced in different seasons of the year.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: This “Candied Rough Citron” as the name suggest, can be highly used in the kitchen.
Skin can be candied whole, and it’s amazing for its intense aroma.
You can also make amazing marmalades, liquors and desserts with it,
-Ornamental: It’s a beautiful ornamental variety for its shape and its big fruit.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -5°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
