DESCRIPTION
Navelina Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis) is a particular sweet early Citrus variety.
ORIGIN
It’s been selected in California, then introduced to Spain where now it’s currently highly grown.
PLANT
-Tree features: Plant seems to be very compact-spherical in shape, following a typical “Washington Navel” style
-Leaves: Leaves are usually lanceolate, very dark-green in colour.
FRUIT
-Shape: Fruit is round-shaped, sometimes can be slightly oval.
-Flavour: It’s a high quality sweet orange. Skin is aromatic, pulp is usually seedless and very juicy.
-Colour: Orange to deep orange depending on the harvesting time.
SEASON OF RIPENESS
Season of ripeness: It’s a early variety. It starts to ripe from October/November about.
It usually starts to bloom during Spring time. Typical “zagara” flower is white and very fragrant.
HOW TO USE IT
-In the Kitchen: Navelina Sweet Orange can be used as the first ripened orange coming to our european markets.
It can be zested on fish, cakes. Also it’s a good choice to make marmalades or squeeze it!
-Ornamental: It’s a good ornamental choice because of its colour and its shape.
COLD RESISTENCE
According to our tests, in the Greenhouse, or in a covered area, it can resist to a temperature of -9°C.
This variety needs to be maintained like a normal Lemon.
